Q: Why do Dine Outs only benefit the 5th grade?

A: I’m so glad you asked. Each year, Lawrence 5th graders have the wonderful opportunity to attend a 3-day overnight Science Camp, which has a high cost for families, varying but usually exceeding $400 per student. To support these students, we have added a Dine Out coordinator position to the PTO run by your very own Mrs. Plattner! She coordinates with local businesses to help the 5th graders offset the cost to Lawrence families. Funds earned throughout the rest of the year will go towards this year’s 5th graders until their Camp collection period closes. Starting in February, Dine Out dollars will be going toward next year’s class (current 4th graders) with the idea that those funds can be applied to that class’s unique needs. We intend to continue to pay it forward with Dine Outs as each of our rising 5th-grade classes needs a little extra support.
